A Thousand Lovely Letters

Before half term we celebrated the art of letter writing.  Here’s a letter we wrote to St Thomas’ pupils encouraging them to get writing:

Dear Children,

This week, we are setting you a challenge! Book week is fast approaching and this year we are going to be focusing on books in which the author has written letters between the characters.

During book week you will all learn how to write letters and we’re hoping every class will have a lovely display of all your letter writing by the end of the week.

We’d also like you to have a go at writing a letter at home because on the Friday we’re giving you the opportunity to dress up as a character that you would like to write to. It would be great if you could have the letter you’ve written with you that day. You could write to; famous people; fictional characters; politicians, friends, it could be an invitation asking for someone to visit or a persuasive letter, asking someone to change something– it’s up to you, but please bring the letters in to school on that Friday. We’d love to see them.

As you can see from the photographs many children took up the challenge, wrote wonderful letters and dressed up as characters such as the Obamas, the Demon Dentist, Nelson Mandela, Angelina Ballerina, Neville Chamberlain and Usain Bolt.
