Pupil Premium

Background

The Pupil Premium (PP) is a grant given to schools for each child who claims free school meals currently or who has done so in the past six years. Research has shown that pupils who have been or are on free school meals do not attain as highly as other children in school. The government provides this grant so we can allocate additional support to ensure that disadvantaged children do attain well. The support can be in a short burst or over a longer period such as a term or a year or more. It may take the form of one-to-one support, small group teaching or additional teacher support in class. It could also be enrichment or access to opportunities that enhance learning and aspiration.

Aims

Our main aims are:

  • To close the gap in attainment for PP pupils in all subjects
  • To maintain high expectations and standards for all PP pupils
  • To ensure that all pupils are given the same opportunities to develop their potential and participate in activities in and outside school

Plans for this year (2018-19) the school has been awarded £143,880 to raise the attainment of PP pupils of which there are 109 children.
Broadly we will use our money to employ extra teachers to support children in class, in small groups and one-to-one. The aim is to ensure children make strong progress in reading, writing and maths and catch up with their peers. There is also a programme of support for pupils with emotional and behavioural difficulties who receive help from our learning mentor. The school also invests a significant amount of additional money each term to support PP pupils.

Plans for last year (2018-19) Funding was spent as above on additional teachers to support identified pupils. The funding impacted strongly on pupil progress with pupils entitled to Pupil Premium making good or outstanding progress similar to their peers.
